Vintage 1940s Mens Smoking Jacket Robe Mint

Vintage 1940s Mens Smoking Jacket Robe Mint

Product Information

Treat your special someone like Cary Grant, by giving a vintage gift of class and distinction!  This 1940's wine colored smoking jacket robe, is in a patterned silk, or rayon satin, with satin lapel

and rolled cuffs, and a long belt with fringe.  It is extremely well made, with a beautiful lining, shoulder pads, one pocket on the chest, and two below, one on each front panel.  Even the belt loops

have button hole closing.  The workmanship is excellent!  It measures 48" chest, 21" across the shoulder seams, 49 1/2" long, and has a 25 3/4" sleeve length.  It is in mint condition!

The circular and crescent shape brocade design throughout, is reminiscent of the Art Deco Period, which ended in 1941.  The label reads:  Mabley & Carew, Cincinnati

This was a department store with a long history of quality!

The history of Mabley & Carew...per Wikipedia, the online dictionary:

Mabley & Carew Department Store was a prominent department store in Cincinnati, Ohio.  In 1877, Detroit merchants C. R. Mabley and Joseph T. Carew, en route to Memphis, were stranded in

Cincinnati by a late train, and wound up going into business, in the heart of what was then a booming river city.  They walked around town and reached Fountain Square, saw a "For Rent"

sign, and decided that 66 Fifth Street was a fine place for a store.  Mabley and Carew was the first store in Cincinnati to adopt full-page newspaper ads, to give elaborate Christmas

performances, and to set up the Arbor Day custom. The Mabley and Carew building was once illuminated by 10,000 lights that glimmered opposite Fountain Square.

The company was owned by a joint partnership, but managed by Carew. After Mabley's death in 1885, Carew became sole owner of the business. After Carew’s death in 1914, he was

succeeded as Company President by his first cousin Bolton Stretch Armstrong, who ran the company until 1951.  Afterwards different companies bought it out, until finally, sometime after 1978,

the Dayton, Ohio based Elder-Beerman Company changed the name to its’ own.  So, Mabley & Carew Department Store survived for over 100 years!

As I have no full sized male mannequin, and did not wish to display this gorgeous mens robe on just a hanger, my husband graciously agreed to model it for you!  He stood facing the sun to show you this

wonderful Art Deco pattern!  But...if you do not act quickly, he may change his mind, and keep the robe!  He looks so distinguished, doesn't he?

(Please make sure you have taken measurements to ensure fit, before purchase, as clothing is not returnable for mistakes in size!  Many clothing items have been freshly cleaned, or are in mint condition.)

Shipping, delivery confirmation, and insurance, is included in the total price for a buyer in the continental U.S.A.  I will gladly combine shipping for multiple purchases.  Texas residents

will be charged retail sales tax at check out.  Buyer from Hawaii, Canada, the U.K., Europe, Japan, China, and Australia, contact me for shipping cost.
